Some versions of Windows are missing Windows Media Player and other media-related technologies needed to decode and play videos and music properly. Microsoft offers a Windows Media Feature Pack (for versions designated as Windows N and KN editions) and a Platform Update Supplement (for Windows Vista and Server 2008) that you can download to add this functionality.
Here are some problems that people have reported when the Windows Media Feature Pack is missing:
We will again use the Live HTTP Headers plugin for Firefox to view the redirect. As you can see the pages redirect with the correct 302 status code. You are now ready to do basic redirects in IIS 7 on Windows 2008 server. These redirects can also be setup using Appcmd.exe at the command line, but this is beyond the scope of this article. Tip: it is always good to research Windows updates before installing updates. Microsoft revealed that certain Symantec and Norton software installed on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 systems does not play nice with the change and Microsoft made the decision to block updates on machines running Symantec and Norton software until the issue is resolved.

- 'Why do I get a Netflix error that Microsoft Silverlight is required?'
To resolve this, please download and install the Media Feature Pack or Platform Update Supplement that's appropriate for your version of Windows.
Firefox For Windows Server 2008
Visit Microsoft's support article to find your version of Windows.
If you update Windows to a newer version, you'll need to install the newer version of the Media Feature Pack even though you installed it for the previous Windows version.

Windows 10:
For Windows 10 version 1903 and later, the latest Media Feature Pack can be added as an Optional Feature from Windows Settings. To add the Media Feature Pack, go to Start > Settings > Apps > Apps and features > Optional features > Add a feature, and then locate Media Feature Pack in the list of available optional features.
